Like scattered pages.
Yoasobi's debut EP is a fascinating one, although it's not something I would say that it really executed that well. Fast tempo songs accompanied by busy instrumentation (and a lot of key changes) only worked well when the melodies and the vocals put their stride, which only worked for cuts like 群青 and あの夢をなぞって. But I wish that the production and mixing can be a bit better, where the vocals can sound odd, or the instrumentation can be haphazard and turn each other down, and overall can make these songs feel quite token with just how clean it is.
The same goes for the lyrics, where even if I find the reversed structure fascinating, it still feels scattered in its details. Moments of a relationship that start to break down, but still feels vague and hazy, like some pages got ripped out of a book.
It has some things going for it overall, but I was just not that enthralled as much as I would love to.
