Album Review: Hashirat - Fashion

A messy simmer of emotions.

It was honestly exhausting listening to this 1 hr and 40 min behemoth of an album, and with only 3 tracks on its belt. And after I went through this album, I will say that I appreciated the work that Hashirat (aka sonder, Black Pagoda) has put through with how he uses these samples and the beats to create a messy and meaningful experience for him. And unfortunately, that's what I find myself lukewarm on this project, with 3 very long tracks, the way these tracks transition from one passage to another felt a bit messy, and kind of random as each passage presents a different vibe and different genre that makes the progressions to be clumsy. And the use of samples don't help it either as you will hear scraps of it either modified to mesh well with the passages, and at times, it benefits, but at times, it doesn't. But it is the point, as Hashirat intended that these messiness and the clumsiness of the songs are meant to represent the worst sides of himself through the randomness of the samples, the overbearing length, and scattered tone whiplashes throughout all these tracks. But sadly, I couldn't connect with it. Good for Hashirat putting this one out though, I await what project he will do in the future.
