Sam Gellaitry steps into the sounds of Nu-Disco and Dance-Pop, but still retains his wonky touches.
From his past EPs so far, Sam Gellaitry with his own expressive tones and sound variation is quite respectable. Blending in wonky electronics with touches of jazz, ambient, as well as some Trap EDM on the side too. I loved most of the stuff I’ve heard from his three Escapism EPs, so I was curious going into this after listening to that Nu-disco lead single for this EP.
For the most part, he still manages to hit another quality EP with IV. It’s definitely more poppier with tracks like ‘Duo’ with its Nu-Disco flair as well as ‘Assumptions’ which has some very wonderful synth solo, and ‘a new dawn’ with its pristine synths before adding in these deep blasts of bass. This is also the first time he added vocals that did add to the feel with enough expressive timbre. The lyrics too are quite interesting, focusing more on frustrations that come with love either from himself or from his friends that will not stop falling hard over this person even despite the toxic situations.
Even if ‘Games’ didn’t exactly strike me that much, the whole EP is another win for Sam Gellaitry. Dipping his toes on poppier sound while still retaining what makes his sound his.
