A solid release from an unexpected collaborative work of experienced musicians from different worlds, Alto Arc.
An unexpected yet welcoming crossover of talents delivers a solid EP. Each member of this group contributes to an impressive whole. From George Clarke’s cultish vocals and screams, Isamaya Ffrench’s calming and pure cooing, and finally Trayer Tryon and Danny L. Harle’s maximalist productions that make their talents fit into a cacophony trudging through walls of piercing and freezing atmospherics. And for the lyrics that embrace a certain kind of pseudo-religious and cultish tone, it makes sense for the vocalists to deliver a commanding theatricality that enhances the experience and world that they're making.
However, the entire experience gets often tampered with due to the sluggish and clumsy melodic movements that may need to be tightened up.
Still, Alto Arc’s EP is a promising project with some of the experienced artists out there doing something refreshing in their work once in a while. There is something to be found here, and with the interviews telling that this is not a one-time side venture, the kinds of treks that they will go through will certainly be interesting.
