Album Review: Portrayal of Guilt - CHRISTFUCKER

'CHRISTFUCKER' sees Portrayal of Guilt delving down to darker levels with delirious melodies, but is sacrificed by muddy and bloodless mixing.

Their second release this year has only pushed them to darker territory, where the road that they tread upon has branched to a more disturbing and torturous pathway. That second pathway is aptly titled 'CHRISTFUCKER', where their screamo and death metal foundations have put in a different trek.

To put it simply, it's a darker affair than what they have done with 'We Are Always Alone’. The lyricism got more violent and sadistic, the compositions are slower and composed but pave the way to much turgid melodies, the screaming gets deeper at spots, and the addition of noise frequencies do help these mixes tremble. The lyricism fits even if it doesn’t go to interesting territory, and some of the vocal and instrumental mixing can be buried and muddy in some tracks, which is disparaging as the melodies get more ragged and feral than their sophomore record this year.

Quite a shocker honestly, as the band delves deeper in violent crevices with slower yet potent melodies but gets sacrificed with the shoddy vocal and instrumental mixing that comes off as distracting on every level. It might be hellish, but you may not get terrified by it when the soundscapes don’t bellow loudly as they should be.
