One of the breathtaking Vaporwave albums this year, NYSE meshes the genre with Downtempo elements into a melting pot to create an evaporating, scorching, and looping haze on their debut album, 'Millennialism'.
Fusions of Vaporwave in other genres is quite rare, not only because of the dystopian feel of the genre but said genre is extremely niche, so to pair that in other genres might be a tough sell. Enter NYSE, a vaporwave act that released their debut album ‘Millennialism’ that blends vaporwave and smears it with downtempo.
Their debut album is quite a tremendous ride. A cycling loop through deep and bellowing bass licks, blaring and scorching retro synths, echoing and pounding percussion, as well as plunderphonic samples to accent the mood of the songs. And with the in-your-face mix of these sounds, it makes for a loopy, yet enticing atmosphere. It makes up for an interesting listen with these mechanical, melting structures and textures where this album will definitely fit well during the course of the summer. Yes, some of the plunderphonics don’t really add that much to the vibes, and certain songs tamper down their textures at some gaps for better and for worse, but they’re still enjoyable in some way.
It’s an experience that will hook you in with each listen. Putting you in a conveyor belt and making you re-experience the album’s evaporating haze. It might result in some heat spots, but it makes you want to feel it again and again.
